The rest of God freely avails for all
Tapped by those who trust and obey;
Living His will, though they slip, fail or fall
Yet persistent, daring again and again
To arise and stand and dust off errors
And keep marching, one step at a time
Back into His will, back in His way.
God’s rest avails for all, secured by choice
By those who seek to find His will;
To live it and love it no matter what.
In their quest they follow the Word of God
In their quest they touch the heart of God
And for their sacrifices are empowered
Enabled to truly live, to freely enjoy
That hidden manna the world chases
Unable to grasp or relish: rest
In the peace the Prince bequeaths.
Food For Thought: So many factors drive our will. God’s is not so. God’s will is driven by His Word. God’s way is fashioned by His Word. Those who go their way follow the path that makes sense to man whose end is sure: destruction. That is why we see those who appear to have it all ending it all – life didn’t turn out as they thought. Life could not be found their way. Even for those of us alive, daily experiences affirm that life is not found in our ways but some of us are so adamant we don’t listen. We all want to be happy but there is no formula to happiness. We want to enjoy peace of mind when we shun the Prince of peace. How can we enjoy rest without when our insides are turmoil? How can we be happy when the source of joy is missing in our lives and plans? Even those who die are tagged: rest in peace as if the grave is the place of peace and rest. Our rest does not come from what we do or have. Our rest is not tied to location, position or possession. Our rest is found in the peace of Christ that dwells and thrives within, running over in us and through us, saturating and preserving us in serenity that stuns circumstances and baffles understanding. Our rest, alive or dead is Christ. Our rest is in Him alone. Every other is as transient as the eerie silence of a grave yard.
Scripture: He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3: 11.
Prayer: Dear Lord, it is shocking that the Person I should trust most turns out the one I doubt the most: heal my heart and help my faith to rest in You, amen.
