Those who won’t let go can’t let God;
They can’t set self aside to walk faith
Can’t step aside and let Truth work
Won’t commit to follow no matter what
Don’t trust that God leads better
Think faith is silly, freaky, risky.
They don’t get how letting God works;
Looking solely to Him for everything
Trusting all in His care, giving all He asks
Doing what He wills, the way He wants . . . .
“What about me?” Self screams.
Living for self, they can’t live for God
Heeding self, they can’t hear God:
Those who rely on self can’t access
Or enjoy the rest that faith unlocks.
Food For Thought: We often assume that rest is a destination to be reached after retirement, after acquiring certain sums of money, properties, accomplishments and accolades. In the end, we reach these self-appointed destinations only to realize that rest is still amiss. No amount of effort or acquisition bequeaths rest especially to a mind besieged by anxiety. Just like you don’t know life if you don’t know Jesus, you can’t enjoy rest if you don’t embrace the Prince of peace. Rest is not a destination. It is found in the Person who Himself is our peace. Outside Him, our efforts and plans eventually wear us out. But Jesus is the grease of peace that enables us to enjoy rest without being worn by the frictions of life. Jesus adds flavor to our living, meaning to our earnings, fulfilment in the end so that whether we abound or are abased, we enjoy boundless peace, and whether we live or die, we rest cocooned in surpassing peace.
Scripture: And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? Hebrews 3: 18.
Prayer: Dear Lord, it takes faith to know You, walk with You, triumph through life, and rest in You: may my faith in You be unshakeable, amen.
