That door was the best I’ve seen
With features amazing, colors captivating
I wanted like nothing else, to go through.
I dreamed of strolling in to behold awaiting
Wonders, resplendent glory. I dreamed of all
The good beckoning on the other side of that
Awesome door. The more I dreamed, the harder
I sought to get close and watch it swing open
To regally enter to possess. I fought my way
Through and won. I reached the door at last
But alas it wouldn’t open for me, won’t budge:
Too late, I learned that was not my door.
Food For Thought: Our position influences the way we look at things and how we look determines what we see. Someone who is biased will see nothing good in something they despise. One person may look at a door and see it blazing with glory, holding dreams untold while another considers it drab and leading to nowhere. What we see when we look influences our responses. If we see good, we naturally want to be a part of it. If we see undesirable, we want out as quick as possible. We see one thing and it is the epitome of our desire. We see another and no, we don’t want to have anything to do with it. These observations have taught me to pray for eyes that see right and heart that understands. What we see raises or kills expectations. I don’t want to see what is yours as mine because then I am inspired to pursue and possess what I shouldn’t. I don’t want to see what is wrong as right for then I will be encouraged to approve it. We need good and healthy eyes to see right, we need wise and compassionate hearts for the right interpretation and appropriate application. And we need one another’s eyes to capture the full view because sometimes, we can only see a part from where we are. May we be surrounded by caring eyes and hearts that see good, understand it, and are not afraid to share their findings with us. May our eyes be the help that others need to get up from where they are and move to where they ought.
Scripture: My son, let them not depart from your eyes – keep sound wisdom and discretion. Proverbs 3: 21.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to understand that sight can be very deceptive, that feelings come and go, that dreams may disappoint, and that Your Word never fails, amen.
