When God came for us, He didn’t show up in Church
Preaching that burning message in the heart of the Almighty.
When God came for us, He didn’t land in the palace
To rein our erring souls back into His Kingdom.
When God came for us, He didn’t bring down mountains
Set forests ablaze to show He’s got the power.
When God came for us, He didn’t knock down our doors
Kicking and screaming salvation for these lost souls.
When God came for us, He didn’t pounce on this catch:
Drag us down redemption lane whether we wanted it or not.
When God came for us, He came behind the scenes
Became like us, worked His way into our homes
Into our hearts, i
nto our fears and into our hopes.
When God came for us, He came offering not forcing
He came loving to save and to bless the undeserving.

Food For Thought: How many fathers today would see their prodigal child loitering around the house and turn the other way, “Fool, now he wants back in, right?” How many will see that daughter approaching and slam the door on her face with, “I told you! I warned you!”? How many will see the son coming back and lose their temper for the sake of all that has been wasted and the fact that they will now be expected to take in and cater for the squanderer, “At whose cost? Who’s going to pay for that?” Who will not shudder at the recall of the pain they went through, the shame they bore among relatives and in the neighborhood, as parent of the black sheep, the lost goat, the fool? How many couples will step out of their comfort and stretch out their hands to a mate who has failed God, failed the family, and failed themselves? How many of us will, at the risk of our honor, venture into the path of home coming ‘shame’ and give that embrace that says, “Welcome back. Welcome home”? How many will not set unbearable terms and conditions to teach the prodigal a lesson, “Those are my rules if you want back”? How many will help to clean up and set the returnees back on their feet again? How many will find something worthy to celebrate in that return when others are still whispering and gossiping and complaining and pointing fingers? May we learn from the Father’s love, how to love the good, the average, and the bad.

Scripture: And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2: 8.

Prayer: Dear Lord, no matter how high You lift me, may I never lose the humility to stoop in order to reach those that You seek, amen.
