If wishes were horse, I wouldn’t be here
I’d rather be there, anywhere else but here.
Being here is tough, a constant itch I scratch
It’s like a cross I can’t ignore or escape
And no matter how I device to carry it
The weight holds me down, drags me back
Hurts my shoulders, my back aches so bad
I’d die for relief. I’ve tried to carry it
With care and cheer but often the weather
Is so sour I can barely take one step. I look
Around, everyone else’s cross seems lighter
Even fancier than my ancient rugged one
Everyone else has reasons to celebrate
To enjoy being where they are, except me.
I could put it down, lie on it, close my eyes
And dream away but the wearying weight
Wakes me to reality. Carrying my cross
Hasn’t been easy but it has made me
The person I am today. I’ve learned
That I can go wherever and be whatever
I choose to in dreamland but until I awake
Arise, take those crucial steps in my reality
I’ll be here a very long time. And though
I think being here today is tough
Tomorrow won’t come any easier to me
Except I learn to carry this cross with grace.

The grass they say looks greener on the other side. I saw a seeming improvement of that saying, which states that the grass looks greener where it is watered. Yet, truth remains that whenever we look at something or someone from a distance, the visible appeals and the unappealing doesn’t show. Looking down our feet, we are so close we can see the chipped nails and the dirt beneath the same nails that someone just complimented. Besides, because it is our nails, we see some intimate details no other eyes can see and that makes us really critical in our assessment. It is good to look across but it is only fair that we look objectively and see something good that will aid, not discourage our journeys. In a world spewing discouragement and disregard for us and our rights – nobody is in a better position to encourage and affirm you than you can, and you should.

It is easy to get consumed in our world and our situations. The night appears so dark when we are by ourselves and all we see around is blackness. That alone can be depressing. But if you can look a little further, a little longer, you will see signs of dawn. The night won’t last forever. And darkness cannot keep dawn at bay. When light appears, darkness and its cohorts will disappear. So, no matter how long your nighttime lasts, and no matter how dry your lawn appears, take it with grace and hope. Do what you can, learn what you can but don’t give up. Keep pressing on, knowing that no matter how long this night lasts, joy surely comes with the morning.

Blessings.
